Apprentice
Systems Simplifies Product Design Using the Microsoft Office System
Automates
The Configuration Of Complex Products And
Systems
HUDSON, Ohio – October 21, 2003 – Apprentice Systems Inc. is showcasing its innovative product
configuration solution today at the worldwide launch of the Microsoft Office
System. This solution, comprised
of the Apprentice Product Modeler and Product Apprentice, automates the
generation of complex product and system designs using Microsoft Office Visio
Standard 2003 and Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003. The
automation is based on design knowledge captured in the Apprentice Product
Modeler, which uses Visio Standard for visualizing product design structure and
rules.
“Product design is a nonlinear process that relies heavily on diagrams to convey complex rules,”
said
Apprentice Systems provides tools that allow any organization to quickly capture their
proprietary product design knowledge and use it to automatically generate a
custom computer application that puts that knowledge to work.
Using Apprentice software, powerful customized applications can be generated without writing a
line of computer code.
The solution is being used at Motorola’s Commercial, Government, and Industrial Solutions Sector
(CGISS) to design and quote public
safety systems. Public safety systems are
complex telecommunication systems that include communication
equipment used by police and other public safety officials and the
911 dispatch centers that connect them. Motorola has incorporated
and expanded upon Apprentice Systems technology, integrating their
design solution, called iMPACT, with back office systems to
generate orders.
“Over the years, the Motorola user base for this solution has grown to
more than five hundred employees worldwide,” said Sue Cosmos, Software
Development Manager, Motorola Inc. “The
iMPACT tool has become the primary design tool for system engineering and final
sales quotation.”
Apprentice Systems builds its software solutions on the
Microsoft Office System because of its completeness and its
familiarity among potential customers. By creating applications
that integrate several Microsoft Office System products along with
its own proprietary software, Apprentice Systems delivers high value
solutions that address many problems facing knowledge workers
today.
“We
are excited that Apprentice Systems has been able to seamlessly
integrate with the Microsoft Office System to provide customers with
powerful information management tools,” said John Vail, director of
the Information Worker Product Management Group at Microsoft
Corp. “Apprentice
Systems is especially innovative in its use of Visio to not only
document knowledge but also put it into action with
Apprentice Product Modeler and Product Apprentice.”
Apprentice Systems is an Ohio corporation specializing in
