Apprentice Systems Inc. releases the new .NET version of its project automation solution, which generates complex custom projects based on captured process standards and current business needs.
Hudson, OH, May 19, 2005 -- Apprentice Systems Inc. is releasing the new .NET version of its Project Automation Solution, which automates the simulation, estimation and creation of complex, custom projects. The Project Apprentice automates the generation of complex project plans and exports them to Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 and Microsoft Office Project Server 2003. The automation is based on process knowledge stored in the Apprentice Process Modeler, where users capture organizational knowledge about process structure and rules.
“Apprentice Process Modeler and Project Apprentice make project templates obsolete,” said Debra Walker, CEO, Apprentice Systems. “A project manager using our solution can do in minutes what would take days using a traditional template-based approach.”
As head of auto tire product planning for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Europe, and later in the United States, Walker searched for tools that would simplify the creation of complex new product introductions. “Templates were the only solution,” she said, “but they required massive manual intervention to tailor them to new requirements. Now all that customization can be done in moments with the click of a mouse.”
“Templates are good for capturing what is consistent about a process, but not about its variation. Apprentice Systems’ rules-based engine captures this sort of knowledge easily and puts it to work,” she added.
Project Apprentice can also be used to run ‘what-if’ analyses to see the impact of various factors on timing and costs. Project estimates and sales quotes can be generated in minutes for prospective clients.
Blocks of tasks can be automatically generated for items in a database, such as a list of products or sizes. Complex projects containing thousands of tasks, along with resource information, work required and elapsed times, can be generated and calibrated in moments based on a set of assumptions and current requirements.
“Creating a new project – that accurately reflects the way the business works -- is often the biggest barrier in project management,” Walker said. “Now that barrier is gone.”
