FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Apprentice Systems to Launch New Website for Law Students

Apprentice Systems Inc. to provide free access to the Student Edition of Legal Apprentice

Hudson, OH, February 26, 2007 -- Apprentice Systems Inc. is releasing a new vertical market application of its Decision Configuration Solution called Legal Apprentice.  Legal Apprentice is a decision support tool that models legal reasoning, and helps legal experts capture both legal rules and legal cases. The rules and cases can then be used to construct new arguments and proofs in new cases.  The first version of the Legal Apprentice that will be widely available is the Student Edition, which will be showcased on a new website designed for law students and launched this summer in preparation for the 2008 school year.

“Legal Apprentice uses the visual tools of our Apprentice Decision Modeler to capture legal knowledge,” said Debra Walker, CEO, Apprentice Systems, “and this approach makes the structure of law clear in a way that books of court opinions cannot. Court decisions state the law in very many ways, and not always in the most useful form.”

“Since law students face the challenge of extracting the structure of the law from thousands of pages of decisions,” she said,  “and of learning ‘to think like a lawyer’ at the same time, they may benefit greatly from the clarity of our knowledge models.”

The Legal Apprentice - Student Edition will be available for a free download by qualified law students.  A limited number of expert knowledge models will also be available for use within the Legal Apprentice, covering areas of law and cases usually taught to first-year law students.

“Law students will be able to use the Legal Apprentice to analyze the cases they are studying in the classroom,” Walker said.  “This will be a powerful tool for helping them through a very complex process.”

“There seems to be a belief in law schools that students will learn more if they are left on their own to 'discover' the law through reading a large number of court opinions,” she added.  "We want to see if supplementing that approach with a knowledge model of the legal information can help those students who may struggle in the more traditional teaching environment."
