The most popular topic at the 2006 Fall Symposium of the American Association of
Artificial Intelligence was Interaction and Emergent Phenomena in Societies of
Agents. Dr. Vern R. Walker, a partner with Apprentice Systems in the
design and creation of Legal Apprentice, presented a research paper titled "A
Default-Logic Framework for Legal Reasoning in Multiagent Systems". This
paper discusses the challenges of decision making in the legal environment, and
how Legal Apprentice supports the three major aspects of logic in the law:
rule-based reasoning, evidence evaluation and process-constrained decision
making.
